TE REO KORI ROTATION 1

Today the senior school started a te reo kori rotation. This is when each class explores a different activity with one of the senior teachers.
Room 4's first activity was skipping with Miss Humphrey.

MAORI FRIED BREAD

A group of children made Paraora Parai - fried bread. The children had to carefully read the recipe, problem solve and use their initiative. Can anyone comment on this post to explain why this group of children did baking today?

TECH CHALLENGE

Today we completed our very first Technology Challenge.  Our task was to work in a team to build the tallest tower we could.  The criteria for the tower was:
  • must be able to be moved around.
  • must be able to stand up by itself.
  • use the correct equipment: scissors, 1 newspaper, 1 roll of sellotape and 5 straws.
  • be a good team member.
The first thing we had to do was plan our tower.  We talked about our ideas and drew a plan:

Then we had 30 minutes to build our towers.  Most teams managed to make their towers stand up, but there were one or two 'epic fails'.  Congratulations to Heath and Sophie, their tower was the tallest!  Well done you two!

CIRCLES MATHS LEARNING

Today we were learning about reflection and symmetry.

We found out it is a lot of fun to do play reflection games in pairs.

While learning about symmetry we used our handy Mobi pad to help us show our understanding. We really enjoyed using this tool on the big screen.

The Circles maths group now think they will get 100% correct in their Mathletics symmetry task this weekend. Good luck!

HAND ART

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working on this hand art with Miss Simpson.
WALT:
·         Blend pastels together eg. dark blue and light blue, or red and pink.
·         Take special care with our pastel work eg. don’t go over the vivid lines.
·         Choose lovely, bright colours.

First we had to work with a partner to trace around our forearms:

Next we had to create an original design for our hands.  After that, we traced around our pencil marks with black vivid.  Colouring the designs with pastel was challenging, but we worked hard and are very proud of our finished products.  Check it out!
