MAORITANGA CELEBRATION EVENING

Last night Halcombe School celebrated our Maoritanga learning with our whanau and friends.

First we did maori music with sticks and by clapping. Then we presented our lengendary maori learning and finished off by singing Pakeke Mai o Matimati.

I am very proud of all of you for presenting your learning so well. Ka Pai - From Miss Campbell.

MAORITANGA- MOKO

We have been learning about maori moko and maori tattoos.

While staying at the marae Awhine and her daughter Rangituehu designed some simple moko designs for us to try.

Once we learnt a lot more about the moko Miss Campbell tried the moko designs on some of our chins. We thought this was really fantastic!

MATHS DROUGHT PROBLEM

To start Maths today Miss Campbell gave us a tricky maths problem.

Emma- We worked hard and really had to think. My face turned red with concerntration.
Toby- I learnt to slow down and not just guess.
Cameron- I learnt to borrow tens in algorithms when subtracting.
Tahu- I learnt to add large numbers in my head then double check.

IPC DRUMMERS

This afternoon we had a very special performance for the IPC Drumming group from Palmerston North. Miss Campbell has been teaching Room 6 Japanese so it was a perfect oppportunity for Room 6 and the whole school to experience a bit of Japanese culture and music.

What did we think about about the performance:
Sophie- At the end I felt myself vibrating. It was so fascinating.
Willow- My eardrums were popping each second. My chair wobbled all the time.
Cameron- I felt like there was an earthquake because of the vibration.
Leah- My favourite part was when it looked like they were doing karate. It was so loud that I was sweating.
Tahu- I could feel vibration threw my whole body. At the end I felt frozen.

GARDEN SANDWICHES

Last week Room 4 were very surprised to see lettuce, tomatoes and beans all ready to eat in our garden.
We made fresh salad sandwiches and added a special taste of maramite.
We are very thankful for our class garden and are excited to plant some winter veges.

A special thank you to the Room 6 students who have been keeping an eye on our garden for us.

MARAE STAY OVER

Last night the senior school stayed at Taumata o Te Ra Marae.
If we were to describe our marae stay-over in one word it would be AWESOME.

During our trip we learnt a lot about Maori tikanga.
We are extremely thankful for George and his great team who welcomed us so enthusiastically into their home.

Room 4 children please comment on this post to tell others some of the things you learnt and the best parts of your stay.
