MOVE DOWN THE BUS!
Mr Tongs joined Room 4 this week while Miss Campbell is away. Mr Tongs has a few musical bones in his body, and very quickly the Room 4 students were singing a new song. Even a few parents caught them humming at home! It didn't take them long to master the words and the melody - some even know it off by heart already! They helped teach it to the senior team for team singing this week.
We hope you like our rendition of the song.

FLOODWATERS!
It wasn't a disaster! No, it was a new maths game that used a lot of chance and a little bit of strategy. It also helped us to think multiplicatively! Using rectangles made from our basic facts we had to cover a grid of squares in the fastest way possible. By throwing two dice we determined the size of our rectangle, then we chose where that rectangle would fit in our grid. On the way we discovered THERE ARE SOME VERY COMPETITIVE CHILDREN IN OUR CLASSROOM! After a few days of pleasant practice, we held a tournament to find the champion floodwater player. It was very tense!
We used a MS Excel spreadsheet to set out our draw. We could see who our champions were as each round was played.
Finally, after finding out that Fritha came in third place (after a close game with Zoe), it came down to the final game between Jessie and Holly T. Well done, Jessie!

Gymnastics in our new hall!
We've been mastering some new skills with the help of some parents and a wonderful new hall to work in. The children have been concentrating hard, and showing some finesse and finishing as they have completed 6 stations of gymnastic activity. Ka pai to Danielle, Fritha, Georgia, and Mataora who have achieved some excellent routines. We are nearly ready for next weeks challenges!

CELEBRATE: BASIC FACTS
We have been working REALLY hard at school and home to learn our multiplication and division basic facts. Everyday we pair up and have 2 minutes of testing each other from our 'triangle chart'. This has been very exciting! Some of us know ALL multiplication and division facts from our chart now! Congratulations! A special congratulations to Willow who won the first prize for recalling ALL multiplication and division facts correctly every time to a buddy and Miss Campbell.
Keep up the fantastic learning and practicing everyone!
Miss Campbell can't wait to see how well you all do in your next basic facts test.

LIBRARY
Today during our library time we did a range of things.
Every week we start our session with two students
recommending and answering questions about their books. But then today we went
further! Our H-O-T reading group (higher order thinking group) budded up with
other classmates to question them about their pukapuka. The questions were tricky
which helped us see if we understand what we are reading.
We also made sure that everyone used both Maori and sign
language when returning and issuing our books.
We will keep up our amazing reading and commitment to our
chapter books over the holidays!
