NEWS THROUGH HALCOMBE

NO ONE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON!
What was going on?  It was a nightmare to our ears as the sound boomed shockingly loud. We could have heard it two miles away. We were so nervous every nerve in our body screamed. We took a gulp of air before being led from the bell and being locked in the classroom. It was all a worry. Now we were concerned something had took place and we didn’t think it was a good situation. Miss Campbell calmed us down by reading our chapter book to us. What was going on?

YESTERDAY'S CAR CHASE
It all started when two males stole a Subaru Sedan 2011 model from Taupo. They had a pit stop at Wanganui petrol station. They used fuel which wasn't paid for. Next they zoomed off with the police on their tail, soon speeding down the roads causing havoc. They caused Halcombe School to go into lock down mode for the children’s safety. The police put down road spikes which epically failed to work. After a while they were in Palmerston North where he crashed into a Holden Commodore causing the bumper to hang off it.  One of the men fled the scene going through The Plaza. The other was captured and is being bought to questioning today, the 25th of October. Then he will go to court to see if he’s guilty or not. The Plaza security has hopefully got a good picture of the other man to then track him down. What a dramatic scene in Manawatu it was!

GETTING STUCK INTO OUR GARDEN

Yesterday we went on a bit of a food hunt out in our growing garden. We were planning on eating all of our healthy and nutritious food that grew in our class garden. Earlier on Miss Campbell set a dip in the staffroom fridge to go with the ready veges that we were going to pick out. When we got to our garden it was time to dig with the spades and forks to get rid of the nasty weeds. Then we dug holes to put the rock melon and all the other plants in. We also chopped some celery stalks from our garden to go with the dip.
Once the celery stalks had been harvested, Jensen and Leah took them to the staffroom to be cleaned. Once ready, we munched back the delicious celery, smothering the stalks with dip. Surprisingly the boys treasured this healthy treat more than the girls! We are all doing our fair share of work to maintain our class garden. Here is a picture of Riley teaching others to carefully take veges out of the garden and here is another picture of the boys loving their fresh kai.

CROSS COUNTRY 2013

Today was the big day we had been training for… the Halcombe School CROSS COUNTRY! We made our way around prickles, through mud and the creek. We did it!
Note from Miss Campbell:
Room 4, I was so proud of each and every one of you. It isn’t the easiest of runs and it was fantastic to see you give it your best go. All the training we have done has paid off. Those who will be attending the Hunterville Cross Country will be announced tomorrow morning.

PET DAY 2013

Today was Halcombe School's Pet Day. What a fantastic event!
There were a range of pets from ducks, chickens, cows, horses, dogs and cats. While some children showed off their pets, others created fantastic pet rocks. We also displayed our 3D photo art for Pet Day.
We enjoyed sausages, muffins, the great company of our whanau and the sun.
Thank you to everyone who made Pet Day run so smoothly.
